The purpose of the Vendor Advisory Council is to provide a neutral forum in which member companies can discuss shared issues, collaborate on projects of common interest and cooperatively direct funds to open source development community activities and members.
The current chair of the VAC is Gerrit Huizenga of IBM.

Top 10 List
The Top 10 is a list of projects that have been identified by the VAC as representing gaps to achieving an Enterprise Grade Linux and having a unique need that no single vendor or the community can address through any other method but the collaborative efforts of the VAC, Technical Advisory Board (TAB) and End User Council (EUC). The VAC's involvement includes:
- Increase awareness amongst vendors and/or the community to try to encourage participation or development effort as needed on a project
- Foster a new project by providing the basic infrastructure and the logistics to get the project started
- Organize a testing effort that would require hardware resources not available to the community
- Recognize the need for one person in a given function (maintainer, developer, writer, etc.) for a project for a limited amount of time and organizing a "fund raiser" to fill a specific need
- Educate ourselves (vendors, ISVs, community, etc.) on new trends that will impact the Linux platform

A Linux Ecosystem in support of Cloud Computing
At the June 18th meeting of the Vendor Advisory Call, Mike Woster brought up the topic of Cloud Computing as an area where both existing and potential members have interests in aspects of a Linux based ecosystem. At that meeting, we decided to put forward a basic proposal for developing an ecosystem centered around Linux and open source. While this ecosystem will not be exclusively open source, we will focus on those core components which are shared throughout the ecosystem which are open source or which adhere to open standards.
Notes from the Green Linux Track
Thanks to Vaidy, we have a summary of the session.
