From The Linux Foundation

Priorities based on 27 September call for the VAC are

  1. "Green Linux" (server and client) (6 votes)
  2. "Virtualization" (server, desktop, embedded/mobile) (6 votes)
  3. Device Driver Support (VAC_Top_10-ks) (3 votes)
  4. LSB - ISV compliance with the ISV, registration, ISV Support (3 votes)
  5. Competitiveness, e.g. Sun/Solaris competitive response on scalability, filesystems, etc. (2 votes)
  6. Carrier Grade Linux
  7. Scalability/RAS/Kernel Debugging
  8. Open Document Format
  9. Audio/Multimedia

Virtualization details

  • Server - multiple clients/images per system
  • Embedded/mobile (need more detail here)
  • Desktop - multiple client OS's in parallel, virtualized appliances
  • Linux should run on any virtualization platform
  • Any version of Linux should be a dom0 or domU (Xen context)
  • Common management APIs across various solutions (hide the underlying technology)
  • Scalability
  • Performance of guests
