IPv6 Problem Scope:
Even though Linux IPv6 is enterprise ready but it is behind in meeting US Govt/DoD IPv6 June/2008 mandate, and the linux industry must act quickly to address the IPv6 gaps. Since this is a Linux industry-wide problem, an IPv6 initiative within Linux Foundation will help address the right set of gaps with its member companies committing to provide required development resources.
With an ongoing effort within the Linux IPv6 community today, but with only few developers actively contributing, Linux will become way behind in meeting the Federal mandate unless the Linux industry get its act together quickly and address the gaps. Hence, it is critical to take the ownership of some of the identified gaps and address them soon.
One of the best ways to tackle this problem is through providing the developer resources by the Linux Foundation member companies and help address the gaps through IPv6 initiative within Linux foundation.
