Questions on becoming an Individual Supporter

What are the benefits of becoming an Individual Supporter? Individual Supporters receive benefits such as their own Linux.com email alias, a weekly “Briefing Book” with news, technical tips, and analysis, discounts on Linux Foundation events, training, and certifcation, and much more.  Learn more about Linux Foundation Individual Supporter benefits at http://www.linuxfoundation.org/participate/supporter.

For EPP discounts, we are limited to the countries for which HP, Dell, and Lenovo have EPP plans available. You can find a matrix showing the countries in which these discounts are available here: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/participate/supporter/discounts

How are Individual Supporter funds put to use? Funds generated through the program will be used to support important community and industry organizations that are advancing diversity in tech and increasing access to new technologies and learning opportunities for underserved populations. In  2016, funds will be donated to Outreachy, a proven initiative that coordinates and underwrites programming internships for women, trans men and genderqueer people; FreeGeek, which recycles and refurbishes used computers and provides desktop training for underserved populations; and #YesWeCode, which is focused on training low opportunity youth to become high level coders. We will review organizations for donation on an annual basis.

How can I check if my desired linux.com email address is already taken before I sign up? To prevent spam from bots to our Individual Supporters, we do not provide an online tool to check whether a certain alias is available. However, we would be happy to check on it for you if you email us at supporterservices (at) linuxfoundation (dot) org.

Is there a way I can see what products I can get the EPP pricing on at Dell, HP, Lenovo? Unfortunately Dell, HP, and Lenovo do not provide advanced viewing of the EPP discounts available. Their sites require the email address and/or codes to see the discounted pricing.

Will my country be added to the Employer Purchase Pricing discounts? We are limited to the countries for which HP, Dell, and Lenovo have EPP plans available. As they expand their program to new countries, we add them to the matrix at the following link: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/participate/supporter/discounts.

Is there a special student price for the Lifetime Email Add-On? There is no special student price for the Lifetime Email Add-On.

I’m a student, but don’t see an option to become an Individual Student Supporter with the Lifetime Email Add-On.  You will need to first sign up as an Individual Student Supporter here.  Once you’re an Individual Supporter, you will have the option to purchase the Lifetime Email Add-On.  (Details are provided in your Individual Supporter confirmation email.)

While completing the checkout page to become an Individual Supporter, should I write my name and address in English? In order to ensure your contact info is updated in our systems correctly, we kindly request all names and addresses be filled out in English.

What if I disagree with the organizations you’re supporting? We will re-evaluate on an annual basis the organizations to which we’re donating the funds. If you’d like to nominate an organization to be considered for funding in coming years, please send your suggestions to info (at) linuxfoundation (dot) org

I just want to support Linux or Linus. How can I donate to The Linux Foundation without my funds going to other organizations? You can choose to make a donation to Linux Foundation at https://www.linuxfoundation.org/participate/linux-donate

Are Individual Supporter fees tax deductible? Because we are a 501(c)(6) organization, contributions to The Linux Foundation are not deductible as charitable contributions. However, they may be deductible as trade or business expenses if ordinary and necessary in the conduct of your business.

Does The Linux Foundation store my credit card information for the annual recurring charge of the Individual Supporter fees? Your full credit card number is never transmitted to Linux Foundation systems during checkout and is stored by Stripe, a PCI Level 1 Service Provider.

Questions for Existing Individual Supporters

If I don't renew, what happens to my Linux.com address? If you purchased the Lifetime Email Add-On, your Linux.com email address will continue to work even if you don’t renew as an Individual Supporter.  If you did not get the Lifetime Email Add-On, the forwarding service will stop when your Individual Supporter status expires. We keep your linux.com email address on file for several months and do not "free" it up for others to use.  However, after six months, we cannot guarantee that your old linux.com email address will not be in use by another Individual Supporter.

Unfortunately I didn't read the Individual Supporter Agreement when I signed up and I didn't know there was a recurring annual charge as part of the agreement.  Can I cancel my Individual Supporter renewal subscription and get refunded for the most recent charge? We hope you want to stay with us as an Individual Supporter, but we understand there are various reasons one may want to cancel. If you notify us within 30 days of the renewal fee charge, we’ll be happy to cancel your Individual Supporter status and refund the renewal fee. Please request this to us at supporterservices (at) linuxfoundation (dot) org

I am getting an invalid promotion code for an Individual Supporter discount benefit. If you get an error when using one of the EPP discount codes please email supporterservices (at) linuxfoundation (dot) org and we will assist. Sometimes our discount codes expire with our partners and we just have to ask for a new one.

How do I set up my Linux.com email address? Log into identity.linuxfoundation.org with your Individual Supporter username and click on the Email Alias tab.

I did not renew and have let my Individual Supporter status lapse. Can I still renew? You can re-activate your Individual Supporter status by going here.

Is there a way I can see what products I can get the EPP pricing on at Dell, HP, Lenovo? Unfortunately Dell, HP, and Lenovo do not provide advanced viewing of the EPP discounts available. Their sites require the email address and/or codes to see the discounted pricing.

Why do I see a $1.00 authorization from Linux Foundation on my card? When you first sign up to become an Individual Supporter, a $1.00 authorization may be issued by our payment vendor to verify your credit card.  These are like the authorization charges used by hotels and gas stations to test validity of a credit card. It is not a charge on your credit card and the authorization will be removed after a certain period as determined by your Bank.

How do I contact the Linux Foundation about my Individual Supporter role (feedback, suggestions, invalid discount code, etc)? We'd love to hear from you. Please email us at supporterservices (at) linuxfoundation (dot) org.
