Leading Chinese telecommunications provider joins CNCF further aligning itself with the growing open source community
SAN FRANCISCO – October 19, 2017 – The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), which is sustaining and integrating open source technologies like Kubernetes and Prometheus, today announced that ZTE Corporation joined the Foundation as a Gold Member to continue revolutionizing the telecom industry.
According to the China Internet Information Center’s “China Internet Development Statistics Report,” Internet users in China reached 731 million people by December 2016 – highlighting the rapid rise of China’s increasingly digital impact. Correspondingly, one of Forrester’s 10 Key Developments In Cloud Computing that will Shape The Industry states that Chinese firms will be key drivers of the global cloud evolution.
“CNCF is thrilled to have ZTE on board as a Gold Member, joining our efforts to support cloud native technologies,” said Dan Kohn, Executive Director of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. “ZTE has been a continuous and important contributor to Kubernetes and we look forward to the company’s assistance in attracting a diverse set of cloud native engineers to our ever-growing ecosystem and increasing the presence of Kubernetes in China and around the world.”
The Shenzhen-based company has locations throughout Asia, North America and Europe and employs more than 30,000 research professionals for the development of next-generation technologies, now focusing on cloud-native evolution for software-defined networking/network function virtualization (SDN/NFV), and code contributions to the open source community.
“We believe cloud native enhancement on NFV will bring dramatic improvement in flexibility, agility and open capability – which is why our company has supported R&D for cloud native VNFs (vEPC/ vIMS, etc) and relevant CT enhancements based on ZTE TECS,” said Xu ziyang, President of ZTE SDN/NFV Virtualization Product Line. “We have integrated CT enhanced Kubernetes (ZTE OpenPalette) as part of our TECS, to bring customers leading cloud native NFV solutions ready for 5G era. In making continuous contributions to CNCF, ZTE will help accelerate cloud native progress with this exciting open source community throughout the communication industry.”

About Cloud Native Computing Foundation
Cloud native computing uses an open source software stack to deploy applications as microservices, packaging each part into its own container, and dynamically orchestrating those containers to optimize resource utilization. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) hosts critical components of cloud native software stacks including Kubernetes, Fluentd, linkerd, Prometheus, OpenTracing, gRPC, CoreDNS, containerd, rkt, CNI, Envoy and Jaeger. CNCF serves as the neutral home for collaboration and brings together the industry’s top developers, end users and vendors – including the six largest public cloud providers and many of the leading private cloud companies. CNCF is part of The Linux Foundation, a nonprofit organization. For more information about CNCF, please visit: https://cncf.io/.
