AllGo, Suntec Software and Wargaming extend the reach of Linux in growing software markets

SAN FRANCISCO, May 28, 2013 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced that AllGo Embedded Systems, Suntec Software and Wargaming are joining the organization.

The demand for devices to become more intelligent and connected in the gaming and automotive industries is driving more demand for interactive entertainment and embedded software in the Linux market. The newest Linux Foundation members are expanding investment in Linux in order to advance software in-vehicle systems and online gaming and leverage the collaborative development model. These and other topics will be discussed this week at the Automotive Linux Summit Spring 2013 in Japan on May 27-28 followed by LinuxCon Japan and CloudOpen Japan on May 29-31.

AllGo Embedded Systems develops system solutions and innovative algorithms that embed electronics into cutting-edge products worldwide. The company was founded in 2005 and has solutions deployed in numerous fields including global automotive manufacturers across Europe, the United States and Asia. As part of the Automotive Grade Linux Initiative, AllGo Systems has already ported Tizen Linux Distribution on an ARM Cortex A9 based platform and is currently adding new automotive features to it.

“Joining the Linux Foundation enables us to collaborate with important community members focused on the connected car,” said K Srinivasan, CEO, AllGo Embedded Systems. “We look forward to working together as a consortium to advance innovation in the automotive industry efficiently and effectively with Linux.”

Suntec Software (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, founded in 1995, is one of the major infotainment solution providers in China. Suntec’s expertise is in operating system, middleware, navigation application, and cloud services.  The company has built a long term partnership with many Tier-1 supplier and automakers.

“Joining the Linux Foundation means more collaborative development efforts, shared expertise and community engagement,” said Oh Taii, president of Suntec Software.  “We are looking forward to working with community members focused on an advanced automotive infotainment system based on Linux.”

Wargaming is an award-winning online game developer and publisher and one of the leaders in the free-to-play Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) game industry. Having shipped more than 15 titles since 1998, the company has vast expertise in military and strategic settings including the armored World of Tanks.

“Our decision to join The Linux Foundation was influenced by the accelerated change of the game industry,” said Maksim Melnikau, Developer at Wargaming. “Having been in this genre for almost 15 years, we seek to reap enormous value from such a strong community and for Linux to advance the gaming industry.”

“The collective participation of companies from a variety of industries and regions enables the Linux and open source communities to extend the reach of Linux software development in many vertical markets,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer services at The Linux Foundation. “We welcome diversity and look forward to working with our new members as well as the many other contributors to Linux that are working on developing the next generation of software for cars and games.”
