Ricoh Joins Linux Foundation

Leader in digital office solutions, Ricoh will participate in OpenPrinting.org workgroup and LF events for face-to-face collaboration

SAN FRANCISCO, April 5, 2010 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced that Ricoh Company Ltd., is its newest member. Ricoh is a global leader in digital office solutions and will participate in the Linux Foundation’s events and OpenPrinting.org workgroup.

Ricoh has a long history of working with the OpenPrinting community. It is formalizing its commitment with Linux Foundation membership to support the ongoing work of OpenPrinting and to ensure its products reach the growing number of Linux users worldwide.

“Our Linux Foundation membership is a natural extension of our support for Linux and demonstrates for our customers our commitment to the platform,” said Tetsuya Morita, general manager of GW Development Center at the MFP Business Group in Ricoh. “We’re looking forward to the opportunity to increase our contributions to the OpenPrinting.org workgroup activities as well as participating in events.”

“Ricoh sees a growing market opportunity in Linux, and we welcome their increased participation in the Linux Foundation,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer programs at the Linux Foundation. “With a rich history of participation and a global leadership position in enterprise environments, we’re looking forward to the collaboration ahead.”

OpenPrinting.org is one of the most active Linux Foundation workgroups and serves to ease and standardize printing functionality on Linux. Ricoh will attend the invitation-only Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit where the OpenPrinting.org workgroup will be meeting April 14-16, 2010. Topics to be addressed during the workgroup meeting will include:

• How to design printer drivers for distribution-independent LSB-based packages and the Common Printing Dialog (mini seminar)
