BERLIN – LF Energy Summit – Sept. 15, 2026 — LF Energy, a Linux Foundation project dedicated to building the digital foundation for energy together, today announced major growth with the addition of new General Members Coreso and Landis+Gyr, new projects AssetLife, CityLearn, EnerGNN, and Smart HEMS Benchmark, and technical milestones across its project portfolio. This ecosystem and community momentum is reflected at the largest LF Energy Summit Europe to date, taking place Sept. 15-16 in Berlin, which experienced over 30% year-over-year registration growth.
“From AI-driven grid optimization to predictive asset management, our growing ecosystem is delivering production-ready open source tools for the industry's most critical challenges,” said Alex Thornton, executive director of LF Energy. “As demonstrated by new members and the record participation at this year’s Summit, open source is increasingly a core strategy for digital energy infrastructure.”
The addition of Coreso and Landis+Gyr as General Members highlights growing institutional commitment across power system operations and energy technology manufacturing. Coreso's participation underscores European regional coordination centres' increasing reliance on open source tools for operational security and cross-border coordination. Landis+Gyr’s membership demonstrates how major solution providers are embedding open source approaches into core offerings to foster software interoperability and flexibility for utility clients.
LF Energy also welcomed four new technical projects contributed by leading system operators, academic institutions, and industry consortia, including:
- AssetLife: A Python library that uses stochastic modeling and survival analysis to guide utility asset management decisions while balancing direct costs and societal impacts like carbon shadow pricing.
- CityLearn: A multi-agent reinforcement learning environment tailored for urban energy management and microgrids.
- EnerGNN: A platform leveraging Graph Neural Networks to model complex power grid topologies for advanced power flow analysis, forecasting and grid optimization.
- Smart HEMS Benchmark: A manufacturer-neutral platform for benchmarking home and community energy management, which provides shared datasets, standardized scenarios, and common metrics across the residential DER lifecycle.
In addition to new members and projects, LF Energy is celebrating several technical milestones. The OpenSTEF project announced version 4.0, delivering a major architectural update that enables any machine learning approach across any IT stack within a single open energy forecasting ecosystem. Further reinforcing technical maturity across the portfolio, SEAPATH advanced to Graduated stage; CoMPAS progressed to Early Adoption; and Grid2Op and OpenGridFM moved from Sandbox to Incubation stage.
