Summary

• The OCUDU Ecosystem Foundation’s OCUDU technical project released OCUDU 26.10, expanding the open source RAN platform with 5G satellite connectivity and new capabilities for advanced wireless networks.
• Expanded continuous testing, security hardening and independent validation strengthen the project as the community advances toward increasingly sophisticated real-world 5G and emerging 6G deployments.
• The OCUDU Ecosystem Developer Summit, Oct. 20-22 in Alexandria, Virginia, will bring the community together to explore OCUDU 26.10 capabilities with the engineers who built them.

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 8, 2026 – The OCUDU Ecosystem Foundation, a collaborative initiative hosted by the Linux Foundation to advance the open source RAN ecosystem, today announced the availability of OCUDU 26.10.  The OCUDU technical project’s new release significantly expands the capabilities of the project’s open source CU/DU platform with 3GPP Release 17 Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) support, 8T8R MIMO, enhanced beamforming and multi-beam operation, O-RAN Split 7.2b, native 5G positioning and new capabilities designed to reduce latency and strengthen security.

The release reflects the growing breadth of open source RAN technology as operators, vendors, researchers and governments explore more flexible approaches to advanced wireless infrastructure. By extending the platform across terrestrial and satellite connectivity, higher-order antenna configurations, positioning and additional O-RAN architectures, OCUDU 26.10 gives developers and implementers more options for building and testing sophisticated 5G networks while establishing a foundation for emerging 6G use cases.

“Open source RAN is advancing from foundational implementations toward increasingly sophisticated capabilities that can support a much wider range of real-world networks,” said Arpit Joshipura, general manager, networking, edge and IoT at the Linux Foundation. “OCUDU 26.10 brings together important advances in satellite connectivity, radio performance, positioning and interoperability in an openly developed platform. Since the OCUDU Ecosystem Foundation launched within the Linux Foundation, it has welcomed 95 new members and doubled the OCUDU Technical Project’s active contributor count, while participating organizations have expanded tenfold, providing the industry with a shared foundation to drive the future of 5G and next-generation networks."

Key capabilities of OCUDU 26.10 include:

• Broader connectivity and deployment options: 3GPP Release 17 NTN support brings 5G satellite connectivity to OCUDU, while O-RAN Split 7.2b provides greater flexibility in how radio processing is distributed across the network.
• Greater performance and lower latency: 8T8R MIMO, enhanced beamforming and multi-beam operation increase radio capacity and flexibility, while two-step RACH, uplink pre-scheduling and configured grants reduce connection and uplink response times.
• New positioning and security capabilities: Native 5G positioning expands support for location-aware applications, while continuous fuzz testing, OSS-Fuzz participation and DTLS signaling encryption strengthen platform security and resilience.

“OCUDU 26.10 introduces Split 7.2b, enhanced MIMO and satellite NTN,” said Ismael Gomez, chair of the OCUDU Technical Steering Committee and CTO of SRS. “Thank you to the community, whose feedback and contributions are strengthening the project and expanding its capabilities.”

OCUDU 26.10 is available now.

OCUDU Ecosystem Developer Summit 2026

The OCUDU community will come together October 20-22 in Alexandria, Virginia, for the OCUDU Ecosystem Developer Summit, co-hosted with Virginia Tech and the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative. The three-day event will bring developers, researchers, operators, vendors and ecosystem partners together for technical collaboration, hands-on learning and discussions around open source RAN, real-world deployments, integration and the future of 5G and 6G wireless innovation.

Developers can explore the new release with the engineers who built it at the OCUDU Ecosystem Developer Summit, taking place Oct. 20-22 in Alexandria, Virginia. To learn more about the OCUDU Ecosystem Foundation and contribute to the OCUDU technical project, visit gitlab.com/ocudu.
