Zephyr Project Expands Semiconductor Support as Texas Instruments and Infineon Upgrade to Platinum Membership

Summary

• Texas Instruments and Infineon Technologies have upgraded to Platinum membership in the Zephyr Project, deepening their investment in the open source RTOS and its developer community.
• These increased commitments provide additional resources for Zephyr’s technical development, infrastructure and community programs.
• The announcement coincides with the Zephyr Developer Summit (October 7–9) and Zephyr Maintainers Forum (October 6) in Prague, where the community marks Zephyr's 10th anniversary with more than 40 technical sessions, over 45 speakers and the first-ever Zephyr Community Awards.

PRAGUE, Oct. 1, 2026 – Zephyr Developer Summit – The Zephyr® Project, an open source project at the Linux Foundation building a secure, connected and flexible real-time operating system (RTOS) for resource-constrained devices, today announced that Texas Instruments (TI) and Infineon Technologies have upgraded to Platinum membership. Announced ahead of the Zephyr Developer Summit, co-located with Open Source Summit Europe, the expanded commitments from two leading semiconductor companies reinforce growing industry investment in Zephyr as a vendor-neutral, open source foundation for embedded development.

TI and Infineon bring longstanding technical relationships with the Zephyr community. TI has contributed to the project since its inception in 2016, providing software and board support while integrating Zephyr across its embedded portfolio. Infineon is also an active contributor and supports Zephyr across multiple embedded platforms. The move to Platinum membership will provide additional resources for the project’s technical development, infrastructure and community programs.

“Ten years ago, Zephyr set out to give the embedded industry a common open source RTOS that companies could build on together,” said Kate Stewart, Vice President of Dependable Embedded Systems at the Linux Foundation. “Seeing two major semiconductor companies that have contributed to Zephyr for years increase their participation is a strong sign of how far that model has come. This support gives the community more resources and makes Zephyr available to more developers building embedded products.”

Since its launch, Zephyr has grown into a global ecosystem spanning a broad range of architectures, boards and embedded applications. As open source plays a growing role in embedded development, Zephyr provides a common platform where semiconductor companies, developers and product manufacturers can collaborate on shared technology. The increased engagement from TI and Infineon will help Zephyr advance its technology, hardware ecosystem and developer community as it enters its second decade.

“As a platinum-level member, Infineon is expanding its investment in the Zephyr community to help developers bring connected, resource-constrained devices to market more efficiently,” said Clark Jarvis, Zephyr Governing Board Representative at Infineon. “Building on a decade of Zephyr innovation, we are committed to enabling greater software reuse and portability across our microcontroller (MCU), automotive MCU, and connectivity portfolios. This deeper engagement reflects our ambition to deliver an even better developer experience, strengthen security, and broaden hardware support throughout the Zephyr ecosystem.”

“TI is committed to breaking down the barriers between hardware and software through continuous innovation. The Zephyr Project is a cornerstone of that effort,” said Marian Kost, vice president and general manager of Wireless Connectivity at TI. “We are continuing our investment in open-source software and the developer community. TI wants to ensure that everyone – from a hobbyist to an engineer – can accelerate their path from concept to commercial product.”

The upgraded memberships come as the Zephyr community gathers in Prague at Open Source Summit Europe to continue celebrating the project's 10th anniversary. The week opens with the Zephyr Maintainers Forum on October 6, a working session where maintainers, Technical Steering Committee members and subsystem owners set the project's technical direction on release planning, security and safety support, and cross-subsystem coordination. It is followed by the Zephyr Developer Summit on October 7–9, featuring more than 40 technical sessions from over 45 speakers across functional safety, security and CRA readiness, connectivity, developer tooling and testing, and real-world use cases in automotive, space and industrial applications. The summit also hosts the Zephyr Community Awards on October 7, recognizing standout contributors from across the ecosystem for their work and support for the last decade.
