State of AI Impact on Software Security and Cybersecurity 2026

Download Report
As generative AI accelerates software delivery, security teams have to manage the surge in new vulnerabilities and expanded attack surfaces. This study, in partnership with OpenSSF, ActiveState, and LF AI & Data, uncovers the realities practitioners face on the ground.

While AI coding tools boost security development speed by 17%, false positives from scanning tools increase workloads by 30%. Critically, 3 in 5 teams now ship code faster than security reviews can keep up, and 82% of practitioners warn that overreliance on AI tools is weakening developers’ security skills. Yet, preparedness is possible: teams establishing dedicated AI security roles and formal policies report significantly higher readiness across emerging threats.

Download the full report for actionable recommendations on building dedicated governance, strengthening supply chain safeguards, and balancing AI speed with human oversight.
