Zephyr® Turns 10: A Decade of Adoption, Maturity, and Ecosystem Evolution

LF Research, Zephyr, and Intel partnered to capture the Zephyr project's evolution, maturity, and opportunities ahead to mark its 10-year anniversary.
 
Drawing on survey data and qualitative interviews, the report explores how the project is used and perceived by organizations and contributors and what challenges and opportunities lie ahead. It provides an empirical view of Zephyr’s adoption, technical footprint, and ecosystem dynamics. The findings show that the project has reached operational maturity and is widely deployed, with varied criticality and integration into products. Key tensions shape Zephyr’s next decade, with sustainability challenges and emerging technologies requiring caution and security measures.
